Purchasing Selected Works of Eryk Salvaggio
1. How Does It Work? If you request a page for purchase, a price will be negotiated for that particular document or series of documents. Upon receipt of a check or processed money order via pay pal, the following materials will be sent to whichever address you provide us with: a. A 16 X 20 photographic print (glossy) of the image. The image as you see it in html may be changed to fit the measurements of the print; this is considered part of the artistic process. This image will be an original; once a print is sold no more can be made without permission of the artist and the owner of the print. The print will be signed to verify authenticity. b. Because the display of net.art in homes is expected to become more widespread as the prices of plasma and lcd monitors come down, a 3 inch cd-r will be made by the artist, containing an html version of the page requested, formatted to run properly in the most current version of both Explorer and Netscape Browsers. Should these technologies become obsolete, permission to translate the work into various platforms will be granted by way of a text file burned onto the cd-r. The CD-R will also be signed. Obviously, there are limitations to this system. Works that are interactive will not be sold unless purchased as a series; in which case a full sized CD will be made with working internal links, with prints as the artist decides are appropriate- to be determined before the final price is settled. Furthermore, anyone purchasing a print and CD-R copy of the images on this site has a right to request the html be taken down from public servers. This will affect the price of the images purchased significantly. Please note, the "September 11th, 2001" piece is not for sale. 2. Why Invest? Internet based art is gaining more and more acceptance as a valid medium. It has been included in shows such as the Whitney Biennial, and has gained support from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and The Walker Museum in Minnesota. While acceptance of new media into the traditional art world has always been slow, internet based art has made rapid in roads towards acceptance. What this means for an art investor is ground level collecting of new artists while they are becoming established in a new medium, meaning significantly smaller investments with significantly larger profits to be expected. What this means for artists is a significant opportunity for funding while the medium emerges, and it becomes possible to sustain a career as an internet artist based on grants, funding, awards, and sales. 3. Why Prints? Is This Still "Net.Art"? Art, no matter how talented the execution, or how brilliant the concept, is economically linked to its aesthetic value. This is to say, all art, to participate in the art market, must work as furniture. This may sound cynical, but it is the "reality of the art market." While paintings of landscapes may fetch upwards of $2500 in a small local gallery, even the most talented, revolutionary and excellent net.artists are incapable of being paid only because of the limits of the medium. All the art presented on salsabomb.com is intended for use on the web, and will be made available on the web, for the web. As an artist, it just so happens that interactivity is not a requirement for most of Eryk Salvaggio's internet based work. As an artist concerned with concepts and aesthetics, this system works. For others, such as those that develop art software, there are other models- subscription services, registration fees- to bring in income, though the result is still a small source of income compared to a large investment of time. 4.
